It can be a salutation or a valediction. Pura vida can pop up at anytime during a conversation for apparently no reason at all. It is not just a saying to the people of Costa Rica it is a way of life. In fact, it is life as it comes to you and not life on a schedule. You find that when you live here not only do you not know what time it is; you don’t know what day of the week it is.

In Georgia, where one of the owners lived for almost 40 years, there is a saying, “Y’all come see us”. It usually ends a conversation that was started with “How’s your mama an’em”. It symbolizes the warmth of the people of the south where any excuse is used for friends and family to gather for good food, drink and conversation.
